Transitioning Tale: Chaunee's Story
A beautiful diva by the name of Chaunee recently began her transition from relaxed to natural. Protecting Your Crown and Glory asked her a few questions regarding her journey thus far, and this is what she had to say:
PYCAG: How long were you relaxed?
Chaunee: Since I was 8, so I would say about 12 years.
PYCAG: What inspired you to go natural?

Chaunee: My top two reasons would be the beauty and versatility of natural hair. I also recognized that ladies (and men) with natural hair had longer, healthier hair.
PYCAG: How long have you been transitioning?
Chaunee: Six months as of June 22, 2009.
PYCAG: Why did you opt to slowly transition vs. do the BC?
Chaunee: I like length, and I've never been one to really rush into anything.
PYCAG: What is your current regimen and or how do you plan to care for your natural hair?
Chaunee: My current regimen consists of a co-wash and a shampoo/deep conditioning treatment once a week; I usually co-wash on Wednesday and shampoo/deep condition my hair on Saturday. I use heat-free transitioning styles such as bantu knot-outs, braidouts, twist outs, half wigs, and kinky twists. In the past I heavily relied on curling irons, straighteners, and blow dryers, but I have yet to use them since my transition.
PYCAG: What products are you currently using?
Chaunee: Cantu Shea butter, Hawaiian silky 14-in-1, Eco styler gel, and Tresemme moisture rich shampoo and conditioner. For my deep conditioner I use a mix I found on YouTube using avocado, mayo, baking soda, coconut oil, and Jojoba oil. If I don't have the avocado, I'll use my favorite conditioner and baking soda thanks to KinkyKurlyQueen and Sheacocoaluv.

Love reading everyones stories. Makes me feel better going through the process.
I enjoy reading the transitioning tales. I'm glad to know that I don't have to BC. Like Chaunee I'm in it for the long haul, it has been just 4 months. But I am determined. Thanks and keep these inspiring and movitating stories coming.
