PYCAG: How long were you relaxed?
Nikita: I was relaxed for 12 years.
PYCAG: What inspired you to transition?
Nikita: I saw the versatility of natural hair; being able to wear hair curly or straight and instantly loved it. I wanted to be a part of a new movement of ladies stepping out of the box and going against the "norm" of black hair.
PYCAG: Why did you opt to slowly transition versus do the BC?
Nikita: I've always had short hair and I wanted to see what growth I could obtain if I decided to transition for a year. It's basically an experiment! I commend those who do the BC but I wanted to go against what would have been an obvious choice for me.

PYCAG: How are you caring for your hair during the transition process?
Nikita: I shampoo my hair once a week and co-wash twice a week. I do rinses after my workouts to get rid of the sweat and dirt. As for styles, I do twist-outs and wear my hair pressed. At night, I sleep in a satin bonnet to protect my hair.
PYCAG: What products are you currently using?
Nikita: I am currently using Blended Beauty Soy Cream Shampoo, Nexxus Humectress Conditioner, and Carol's Daughter Hair Milk. My deep conditioners and other moisturizers are homemade with oils and other conditioners.
PYCAG: What are your hair care goals?
Nikita: The most important thing to me is to have healthy hair. Next is to gain thickness and lastly to gain length. I have decided to eliminate my hair length goal dates (i.e., obtain bra strap length by x date) because I feel like I am stressing over something so trivial!
Thank you, Nikita, for sharing your transitioning story with PYCAG. We wish you the best of luck on your hair care journey!
