Curly or Straight?

Melanie Brown, aka Scary Spice, with curly and straight hair.

I was watching The Millionaire Matchmaker (great show by the way) today, and Patti Stanger, the founder of the Millionaire's Club, was giving some women style critiques prior to their meet-n-greet with some of the millionaire bachelors she had lined them up with. In addition to telling some women to flaunt their curves and let their hair down, she told a few curly haired ladies in particular to ditch the curls and go for a silky straight look. According to her, "Men want hair they can run their fingers through," and curly hair ain't cuttin' it. Don't get me wrong, Ms. Stanger knows a thing or two when it comes to dating, image consulting, and people's likes and dislikes. After all, she's been in the matchmaking business for over nine years, and has experience in the fashion industry as well. Yet, I must say that I disagree with Ms. Stanger about the curly hair versus straight hair issue.

Now, I'm not a man, and the few I know obviously don't represent every man in America, let alone the world, so I can't fully ascertain what all men like or dislike. However, I can say that there is one man that prefers curly hair to straight hair, and that's my husband. In fact, he would rather see me in my natural state of affairs than sporting a thermally altered do'. I find it a little funny considering that I prefer wearing my hair straight, and like Ms. Stanger, at one point believed that men preferred it that way too. Now, I can only speak from personal experience, so I must add that I have noticed a difference in how black men respond to my hair versus men of other races. I definitely turn a lot more Caucasian heads when my hair is straight, but when it comes to black and Latino men, the reaction is pretty much the same.

I would love to hear from some of you ladies out there about what the men in your life prefer. I've already shared my findings with you. It would be cool if we could prove Ms. Stanger wrong, especially since many of us are trying to embrace our naturally curly, kinky hair. So ladies, tell me, what is it? Curly or straight?

All the men in my life prefer my natural hair straight rather than curly but I've actually met a lot of guys who've loved me with my hair curly...who knows?

I disagree with Ms. Stanger. Like you, I can only speak from personal experience. When I started my hair journey and rocking braid outs...my boyfriend absolutely LOVED IT!!!! He likes my hair curley because he says it looks good on me. Also, my bestfriend wears her hair curly all the time and men (black and white) are always complimenting her on her hair. They love it!

I actually think curly hair suit's Mel B's personality. The generation that grew up with the spice girls had a role model who rocked her curls with confidence. I know guys who prefer a natural look and guys who prefer a straight look but if they're into a girl is more for just her hair!

Hi, my hair is naturally curly, and I've never really liked it. I think that men prefer girls with long silky straight hair but you know what? I'm tired of trying to be what I'm not. So I decided I'm going to embrace my hair and pamper it and take good care of it. After all, God made us just the way we are, because just the way we are, we are perfect!...However, sometimes I get a little down cause of my hair. My boyfriend prefers straight hair...I've never heard him tell me my hair looks pretty curly. :(...anyways, I'm starting to love my hair, it's different, beautiful and made just for me!(I think I got a little out of the point here but I was just letting it all out. BTW I looove your blog and youtube channel! Keep going!)

I met my husband when I was a natural, he married me as a natural, but he hates my hair. He would rather have me sew tracks and weave in my hair than to go out in public with my hair out. I really love my hair natural and I am determined not to go back, so I wear wigs when I am out with him and at home he just has to suffer and look at my natural hair. And just to make you laugh, his hair is in locks--now who is really confused??

I'm really late commenting on this, but I have been with my bf for over a year and he tells me that he loves whatever looks good on me, which, unfortunately are styles I am usually unpleased with. My hair is chin length and thicker now that I am transitioning from perm to natural, and I did a braid-out yesterday. Now It is mid ear length,so its really short and wavy, and I LOVE IT...but my bf wishes it was longer. He wants me to wear it straight short, and cant wait for it to get long so that it can please his eyes curly/wavy. I told him he's kinda going to have to wait for the straight stuff because I am no longer applying heat to my hair. I need to get it healthy as possible because I have ALOT of heat damage.

I'm natural. I wear my hair curly and I wear my hair straight. I like it both ways. Since I live a pretty active life style its a lot more managable to keep my hair curly and a lot healthier for it too. In my experience people love my straight hair & my curly hair, it really depends on the person. I do my hair in the best way that works for me and what I got going on. I like the smooth silky run your fingers through my hair hair, but its nothing like curls blowing in the wind on a nice day without any worries straight hair worries. As far as men I don't think it really matters. As long as they get to you know at the end of the day. They just wanna mess it up anyway. lol I think men are attracted to what looks good on you. Its not what you wear its how you wear it. As long as you show confidence with whatever style you are rocking, I believe you can attract anyone you want.
