I Am So Tempted...

Hey Divas,

I am so tempted to cut off all my permanently straight, heat-damaged ends! I was perusing the Miss Jessie's website just to see all the pretty pictures of natural haired ladies and gents, and got inspired after seeing one young lady in particular who is featured in their before and after section. This young lady is natural, but like me, has incurred some damage from the overuse of heat styling tools. She went to the Miss Jessie's salon and they hooked homegirl up! They cut off all her heat-damaged ends and shaped her up. This is what they did for her in their own words:

Before

Client's hair is NATURAL. She gets it pressed out which has left her with straight pieces that will not revert back to curly. She wants a great shape with no fuss styling.

After

We cut off all the straight ends and shaped her curls with the Angle/Balance cutting method We Fingerstyled and scrunched her curls NON-CHEMICALLY with CURLY PUDDING™ was used for styling. CURLY BUTTERCREME™ will keep her hair moist.

Now, I've never tried any Miss Jessie's products before, but based on the photo, the Curly Pudding seems to have done a great job at shaping and defining her curls. A friend of mine actually uses Miss Jessie's products and told me that I can sample some of hers (Y'all know I'm too cheap to buy my own!). Although I am interested in seeing what the products will do for my hair, I'm really curious to see how my hair would look if I just went ahead and chopped off the straight ends. I don't plan on straightening my hair much this summer, if at all, so cutting off the straight ends so that my natural styles retain a more uniform shape would be ideal.

I'm going to straighten my hair today and give myself a much-needed trim. Actually, my ends look a lot better now since I haven't been straightening my hair that often. In fact, this will only be the third time this year that I'm wearing my hair straight. After I trim off the split ends, I'm going to go back to my curly styles and see how I feel…

What do y'all think? Should I cut off my heat-damaged ends, or just let them grow out slowly?

XOXO,

DPrincess28

Hi,
I thought I heard somewhere that if you start doing a series of protein treatments, it may help the damage some? Not sure how true that is...
As far as cutting your hair,it's up to you! I would guess that if it bothers you enough, or if the curls don't look decent anymore, that would be the thing to do.
And remember, when you straighten your hair to do the trim, you owe us a trimming video, missy! Lol.

I think you should let your hair grow out slowly. I tried Miss Jessies and I like the curly pudding but, I feel it's thick and I have been looking for something lighter. I also wanted something that produces soft touchable curls. I hope you do a video when you try it out.

I think if you really want to cut it then you should go for it. If you don't like it, it will grow back.

I think if you are going to be wearing your curly styles this summer you should cut off the heat damaged ends. No matter what you do your hair will still by flyy.

Have a blessed day

I say DO IT! (if its less than 3' lol) I know how it feels to reach a certain length just to cut it off. However, if your going to wear it curly all summer, your not even going to notice. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback y'all! I have been doing regular protein treatments, and although I believe it is making my hair become stronger, the permanently straight ends are not reverting as some have claimed. I know I'll eventually have to just cut it off if I want it to curl again. I agree with most of you about just doing the "BC," esp. since I'll be wearing my hair curly. I won't miss the length as much that way. And yes, I'll do a review of Miss Jessie's and a trimming vid! XOXO

In my opinion, I say stay stick with your original plan which is to cut gradually without doing the big chop. If you want to speed up the process maybe you can add a half inch to your normal trim. Your hair looks great even with your straight pieces. So I think it's no need to rush. Besides you inspire other sistas who want to go natural without doing the "big chop".

i think you should cut it, you still will have a good length and be able to put your hair back, when you need to , and i am sure your hair will grow back faster and healther.!!!!! ~Fabs

Hey Girl,
I think with your face shape a naturally curly bob would look so cute on you! Just like with straight hair, when youcut off a few inches it feels lighter and fresher. Cutting your hair will probably make you fall in love withyour curls all over again, when yousee how spirally and springy they are afterwards.

yes cut off the damage. Your hair will probably grow back really fast and you won't even notice it since you will wear it curly.

The before picture looks better to me. Don't cut or at least don't cut too much. That poor girl looked better before IMO.
