America Mourns

Yesterday, America lost two iconic figures: Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. The day prior to that, Ed McMahon passed away. We are now mourning the loss of some of America's greatest figures in entertainment history. This reminds me of when Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes passed away just one day apart from each other late last year. I'll never forget Ed McMahon's ultimate quest for talent on Star Search. I'll also never forget Farrah Fawcett, the quintessential blond with the infamous hair flip that even sistahs try to mimic to this day! And, those of us who were blessed to know the real Michael Jackosn -- the Michael who wowed millions with his phenomenal talent and stage presence, and not the Michael scarred with legal woes and child molestation accusations, will NEVER forget him.

Michael is the best entertainer that ever lived, hands down! Words cannot describe how I felt watching him perform Billie Jean during Motown's 25th anniversary television special in 1984. I was only a child, but even I knew that what I was watching was inconceivable, undeniable talent. Michael was not only a talented singer and dancer, but he was also a visionary who changed the face of music and music videos. Ever since his video for Thriller debuted on television, artists have been trying to mimic that mini-movie effect, but none have come close to touching the magic of Thriller.

It saddens me how Michael's talent and fame has been greatly overshadowed by the unfortunate events that occurred in his later years. Even though he was never convicted of the crimes he was accused of, so many people convicted him in their hearts and minds. Only he and God will ever know the truth, but one thing is certain: Michael Jackson is a legend in the entertainment world, and his untouchable art and talent will surely be missed. Like Tupac, he is an original, and there will never be another.

XOXO,

P.S. I ask that you divas say a prayer for Michael's soul, for I pray he has finally found the peace that he could not get here on earth. I also ask that you pray for his loved ones as they mourn this tragic loss.

I am sadden, heartbroken, my grateful at the same time. While we all will miss him, Michael Jackson has gone on to rest. The man was loving to all people and all things, I can only imagine he is a star of his own in heaven. I pray he is at peace.
