East Coast Style

Hey divas,

As I plan for my upcoming trip to New York, I want to get some advice from my East Coast divas on how I should style my hair. I know the cold air can be brutal on our hair and skin, so I was just wondering how you ladies go about protecting your tresses during these frosty winter months. I think it'll be a little while longer before it actually starts snowing, but low temperatures will definitely be in effect, so what should I do with my hair? I still have one heat pass left before the "Take Back Your Hair" Challenge wraps on December 1st, so I could straighten it. I'm actually leaning toward that just because it can take a lot of product and time to tame my natural curls, and I would like to wear my hair straight for an event I'll be attending while there. Yet, I'd just hate for my hair to revert if rain and or humidity will be a factor…

Anyway, any advice you leave in the comment section would be greatly appreciated!

XOXO,

I would say straighten it only because curls require SOOO much moisture and the cold air in NY will probably wreak havoc on your head after a little time outside.

Hey Princess!...Ok fall is great because any hair style works this time of the year...Yes its cold But its not quite time for the snow yet!...The weather is great on the East Coast. What I do (well used to do) I would wear my hair out on the inside. And and when I am commuting in from a building or the car and its windy. I keep an arsenal of hair pins...I mean really one will do but I keep them everywhere.....Grab your hair pull it into a quick bun on top or at the nape of your neck so your hair won't get blown away and soon as you hop inside take out the hair pin give a soft shake and your fine!

Now as far as product I used to use just a dab of Biosilk or just a wee bit of Chi oil to keep it moisturized. The autumn is my favorite time of year for fashion and hair...goodbye humidity...hello clean crisp hair!

THERE IS SOME RAIN IN THE UPCOMING WEATHER FORECAST SO I DON'T THINK STRAIGHTENING SHOULD BE AN OPTION. MY HAIR SURVIVES WITH BRAIDOUTS AND BRAID OUT UP DOS OUT HERE WITH SHEA BUTTER TO GET THAT MOISTURE IN THERE. HOPE THIS HELPS!

I live in Cleveland and this will be my first winter dealing with my transitioning hair. Lately its been around 40-60 degrees here, raining off and on, and I recently used one of my heat passes. Now, Cleveland is on Lake Erie so humidity can be a factor. However, in the last few weeks it really hasn't been and I was able to keep my heat-straigtened hair for almost 2 weeks. Also, with it being so chilly, you probably wouldn't want to have to style your hair with various products and then have to step outside into the cold air. I would definitely suggest straightening your hair for your trip. But bring a hat and umbrella for any rainy days!

I live in NY (currently in NJ for school) but it's all the same for me: after September is over I have no problems with humidity on my flat-ironed (natural) hair. You should be fine wearing it straight. As for protective styles, when it's cold I tend to always go outside with a hood on so I don't have any special hairstyle I wear in cold months.

Thanks ladies for all your suggestions! I checked the weather report and it shouldn't be raining while I'm there, so I might take a chance and straighten it. Wish me luck!
