Hair One: First Impression

Last year, I did a post titled, "Natural Shampoo?" in which I asked if any of my divas use or have ever used natural shampoos, and if so, did they like it? Well, some of you responded, and many of you had tried sulfate-free cleansers and found that they performed well in terms of cleansing the hair, while helping retain moisture.

In my video, Hair Update & Hair Chatter," I shared how I finally purchased a bottle of Hair One, a sulfate-free shampoo that claims to cleanse, condition, detangle, reduce frizz, and add shine. I finally got a chance to try it a few days ago, and my initial impression is this:

  • The product did a better job of cleansing my hair and scalp than I ever thought it would (I thought natural shampoos would perform similarly to a co-wash, and therefore not cleanse the scalp completely. Some ladies shared that certain varieties didn't seem to clean their hair as well as regular shampoos).
  • I didn't have to use as much of the product as I thought I would to get my hair clean, which is a plus, considering that a 12oz bottle retails at around $11.00.
  • I enjoyed the tingling sensation the product left on my scalp. I felt like my scalp was really clean, and that it encouraged blood flow, much like products that contain eucalyptus.
  • I like that it can be used as a shampoo and conditioning treatment (I followed the directions on the bottle, and let it sit in my hair for a good 3 minutes or so after shampooing).
  • I noticed that my hair was softer and not as dry as it tends to be after a regular shampoo/conditioning session. I therefore didn't have to add nearly as much product to my hair to set my natural curls. In fact, all I did was distribute a small amount of Olive Oil Moisturizing Lotion by Biolage, and I was good to go!

I intend to continue using Hair One until I've depleted the bottle. Only then will I have a firm impression of how well the product performs. For those of you who are interested in purchasing the product, just know that it is available at Sally Beauty Supply, and it comes in a few different varieties: Cucumber Aloe for Normal Hair; Jojoba for Color Treated Hair; Olive Oil for Dry, Damaged Hair (This is the one I purchased); and Tea Tree Oil for Dry Scalp.

In addition to being used as a shampoo and conditioning treatment, the makers of Hair One claim that the product can also be used as a deep conditioning mask, a body cleanser, and shaving cream.

Hair One is next on my list to try after I finish this Giovanni poo.

For $11.00, I'll be gosh darned if I use it for shave cream! Gillette hasn't failed me yet, hahaha!

I'm glad that you are having success with it. I purchased a couple of those Hair One packets but I feel like I couldn't really get a good read on it from such small amounts. Down the road I may have to purchase the full bottle because I would like to wash and condition in one step. Thanks for sharing!

I just purchased this product this week. I love it. My daughter thought I put on my curly wig. My hair felt light and my curls were defined and shiny without me using any other product. I'm going back to get the bottle $6.50. The next morning I just used it as a leave in to revitalize the curls.
