Vacation Hair

So, it's that time of year again...that's right y'all, it's summer! Summer is the time when many people head out to sandy beaches and tropical resorts to get their swim, sun, and fun on. The hubby and I are planning a weekend getaway, and although I'm excited about the opportunity to spend uninterrupted time with my honey while taking a break from work, I can't help but stress about what I'm going to do with my hair while I'm away!

Now, I know many of you are like, "She's trippin'," because yes, I do realize that I have what many of you would consider "wash and go" hair. However, the dilemma lies in whether or not I want to sport my normal, everyday styles while on vacation. To me, vacation is the time to chill and hang out, but I also want to look fly. I consider it a time to rock cute clothes and sexy hair. Yet, because I love to swim, and plan on doing so while I'm away, I can't justify straightening my locks if they're gonna get wrecked shortly therafter. Yet, I do want to take a break from my everyday curly fro and allow my tresses to flow in the wind. Man, why can't things be simple? I want to be able to emerge from the waters looking sexy like Halle Berry in Die Another Day (Or like model Jessica White in the pic above right), then transition into a sophisitcated, yet carefree look for the evening, much like the styles Oprah, Beyonce, and First Lady Michelle O. rock.

So, my question to you ladies is: What do you do to your hair when on vacay? Do you wear it kinky/curly or straight? Or, do you pack a carry on full of wigs and hair pieces so that you can switch up your look from day to day? Better yet, do you say, "To heck with it," and get your tresses braided or weaved up?

Please post your comments below, because I could definitely use some ideas!

XOXO,

I braid my hair whenever I know I'm going away for a while and don't feel like doing anything to it. It's just easier not to have to deal with it. I can still do cute styles while they're in unlike if I were to get say a braided fauxhawk and that's the only style I'll have for as long as I leave it in.

Extension Braids

I've never used extensions but for what your vacay might have you encounter I say extensions is the way to go. Like Angela Bassett in How stella got her groove back She was lookin fly in Jamaica comin out the water and runnin on beaches. Those were real pretty.

I'm glad you put this on your blog because I was actually thinking of doing a Youtube video about it. I went on a cruise and I just rocked my natural curls because I planned on sweating and swimming too. My hair is nowhere near as long as yours but I switched up my looks but pinning it up differently and using different accessories each day. Just don't forget to pack your conditioner like I did! My friend (who is relaxed) had a sew in and by the 4th day she decided it was getting messy and she took it out and had our cruiseship spa flat iron it. At the end of the day, even "low maintenance" styles still require some kind of maintenance to look nice and neat.

I attach wig clips to hair weaving weft, easy to take on and off for different looks. I also bring alond a curly phony pony, and Eco Styler Gel. All you will need to do is wash your hair after swimming, apply the gel to your wet hair put myour hair into a pony tail then attatch the phoney pony. Eco Gel creates beautiful in natural hair.

I normally do a curly weave (sewn in) but this summer I have a 7 day cruise in Aug and just didn't feel like the sewing process so I found a gr8 curly half wig that I will be sporting on vacay and I love it already. It's my new thang for vacay, wash the sand outta my hair, slap on my half wig...looking good w/no effort, no stress and on lil time!

Well I recently took a trip to Vegas and I had my hair straighten. I wrapped my hair for the first two days and then I wanted to go swimming of course. So before I went to Vegas I purchased 1 pack of tracks from Beverly Johnson's hair line in a French wave I believe for 8.99 and it looks wavy. You also can wet this hair and have that look you want. I cut the weave in half and wore it as a ponytail with bobby pins because I'm not a fan of extensions. I took a little bit a weave wrapped it around to cover the tracks and look the same as my wavy/curly texture. It was pretty sexy when I went out in the evening as well. You also may do your clip-ins with this hair because it matches our hair texture especially when it’s wet.

Honestly, I either get cornrolls or take a curly afro textured pony tail.

I would do the curly/kinky look and maybe pack a couple of wigs or hair pieces. That way you can have different looks whenever you choose and it’ll limit the amount of time you’ll have to keep your husband waiting…lol... Also it allows you to be very versatile. Have fun and I’m sure your hair will turn out GREAT!
