Daily Devotion

To piggyback on my resolution for 2011, I wanted to share some notes I took during church service last Sunday. This month, my pastor is doing a series on stewardship, and the focus is on becoming financially responsible so that we can learn to live within our means and not allow greed to consume and destroy us. During the sermon, he mentioned three myths we tend to believe that ultimately drive our attempts at meeting an insatiable desire:
  1. Debt is expected and unavoidable
  2. Things bring happiness
  3. Just a little more money would make everything okay
I know I have told myself all these lies at one point or another, which is why I try to remember God's word:

"Two things I ask of you, O Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither proverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, 'Who is the Lord?' Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God." --Proverbs 30:7-9 (NIV)

I have struggled in this area as well. I am believing for a breakthrough this year and that my hubby and I will be on one accord! I recently read that same scripture you posted and it is so on point! I am calling those things that be not as though they were: I am DEBT FREE!!!

I too am working to be debt free (except student loans). But i use to believe that debt was just a way of life. Clearly it isn't. I read your post before about only purchasing things with cash. I have lived this way for about 4 years now and it makes you think twice about buying something,
