Hair

Products on My Radar
Now that summer's here, my hair needs have changed a bit, and there are a few products I'd like to experiment with that I think may help keep my tresses in check. The first product is Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie.

I've heard great things about Shea Moisture products, and now that the entire line is available at Walgreens, I'm dying to check it out. If the Curl Enhancing Smoothie turns out to be as great as I hope, I may use it as an alternative to Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding, which would help me save some pennies considering that a full size jar retails for approx. $9.99. I'm also interested in checking out Shea Moisture's Deep Treatment Masque. The summer sun can wreak havoc on parched tresses, and I could definitely use a deep conditioning treatment such as this to keep my locks well hydrated.

Another product on my radar is the Organix line of sulfate-free cleansers. I've been experimenting with sulfate-free cleansers for about a year now and must say not all are created equal. The Organix line has been recommended to me a few times by a handful of my subscribers, and I actually meant to purchase some a while back but picked up a few bottles of Renpure shampoo and conditioner by accident because the packaging is similar (probably a marketing tactic, I'm sure).

Anywho, I will definitely share with you lovelies my experience with these products once I finally get my hands on them. If any of you have tried these products and wish to share your experiences, please post a comment below. I'd also like to hear of any other products you may be using this season that you feel us curlies should be aware of.

XOXO,

I am using the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie now...I LOVE IT! I like that its a cream based product b/c my transitioning hair appreciates lil cream lovin' every now & again. I would suggest that you be careful of how much of it you use b/c your hair is a finer texture than mine. Too much will make it really heavy. I've only used it when my hair is wet so far b/c the shrinkage helps blend the 2 textures better.

@Tee Eee: Thanks so much for sharing. I'll definitely keep your tip in mind.

@Lovelyladyjb: Welcome! Why don't you try the product and we both share our experiences? Must I always be the guinea pig??? :-P

The curl enhancing smoothie is a great moisturizer. In my opinion not a curl definer but my curl pattern is more tightly coiled than yours. I still love it but mostly use it under my ecostyler gel. Hope it works for you!!

Thanks Ms. Harmony. I was wondering if it was a moisturizing styling aid or just a moisturizer. If the latter, then it prob won't be a replacement for Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding. I guess I'll just have to check it out & see...

I've been wanting to try the Organix Shampoos too! I have a little bit left of my current shampoo and I refuse to buy any new products until what I have is gone...but its up next! LOL.

Hey DPrincess! You mentioned that one of your favorite products was Miss Jessie's curly pudding. I was wondering if you made any YouTube videos using this product in your hair? S/N you are so helpful and I love all your videos!

Thanks for the positive feedback! XOXO

LOVE Shea Moisture. I wish they had a better conditioner for the thick and curly line, but my Suave Sleek has been working well. My relaxed hair feels great!

Hey!

I have a big ol tub of the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie that has been sitting in my closet for two months.

My hair is coarser than yours, but I didn't like this moisturizer. It's really really wet if that makes sense. I found that it just kind of sat on top of my hair rather than penetrate it.

So far the only moisturizer that I've really liked is Elasta QP's Olive Oil and Mango Butter Moisturizer. I put that in my hair before I go to bed and my hair is sooooo soft the next morning.

I'll have to try some of these Moroccan oils. I've been seeing this stuff a lot lately.

Anywho, love the blog!

I like the shea moisture line. I have to say i didnt at first. I find the masque works better for me if i leave it on overnight. The curl smoothie doesnt really define my curls but is super at moisturizing and it worked great for my braidouts (wet and dry).

Thanks all for the feedback. Based on some of your comments, I gather that the Curl Enhancing Smoothie isn't much of a curl enhancer at all, but more of a creamy moisturizer. Well, I guess I'll just have to try it and see...

I love, love the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie! It's a good moisturizer for my hair and it does help w/ some definition when I use it in combination w/ another product i use called Profectiv. I didnt care for the deep treament mask, didnt seem to do anything for my hair but I may try it again to see.

The Shea Moisture Treatment masque was a hard one to love. The first two times I used it, I was sure that I had wasted my money. Then I realized it was best used when hair is really wet. I normally wash my hair in the sink so when I walk away from the sink, I usually have to put a shirt or towel on my hair so its no dripping and I suppose that was making my hair TOO dry. It's a very thick product so in order to really spread it, you definitely need your hair to be wet (not dripping necessarily). I've also used the masque as a styler which has worked out ok. I'm not a huge fan of gels, so for my purposes it was fine. More a moisturizer than holding styler when used that way.
